History also draws on and utilises knowledge and ideas from many other disciplines, including politics, legal studies, economics, sociology, philosophy, psychology, the sciences and the arts. This isn't always the case, however. I first began to appreciate the study of history as an undergraduate studying political philosophy at Boston University. Some question the relevance and usefulness of studying things that happened long ago. Performance in history courses can also be a good indicator of a studentâs overall ability to succeed in college.
