This is my favorite because Sword of the Meek is a card that you want in the graveyard more than you want in play, so playing Goblin Engineer and searching for it is better than tutoring it into your hand. The ability of the Thopters to attack under Ensnaring Bridge is good synergy, and the life gain can pull you out of reach of many life based attacks. Subject: Thopter Foundry + Sword of the Meek Sat Jul 24, 2010 8:19 pm Okay, nothing against awe, but this combo is starting to really piss me off, I am tired of seeing it all the time. This token triggers the return of the Sword. I know, "bring artifact hate if you don't like it so much." The card flew under the radar until the printing of Thopter Foundry in Alara Reborn, immediately creating an incredibly powerful combo for eternal formats. Krark-Clan Ironworks allows you to sacrifice the thopter for 2 mana, which gives you 2 Thopter Foundry. The combo can also buy time to complete a prison (Burn, Spirits, Humans, Dredge, Mardu, etc.) The most interesting part of all of this for me is the increasing chorus of voices claiming that the Thopter Foundry and Sword of the Meek combo (hereafter known as Thopter combo) is very, very good. Tap Opal, use the mana to activate Thopter Foundry saccing a Retriever, Dross triggers untaping the Opal, do the same with the second Retriever and return the first to your hand with it. Thopter Foundry is a flexible combo. That said, it locks up the game against tempo and some control and combo matchups. The decks play out at different paces/styles and will require different cards to fight them. There, fixed :). The Talisman adds another UW source for [card]Supreme Verdict[/card]. Since [card]Thopter Foundry[/card] costs two, extra copies are truly redundant, and it’s almost dead in some matchups. The Combos Thopter Foundry allows you to pay 1 mana and sacrifice Sword of the Meek to make 1/1 Thopters, which then allow you to get Sword of the Meek back from the graveyard such that you can repeat the process. There are many different shells to incorporate the combo into, and as a result each deck won’t necessarily be vulnerable to the same hate cards as other versions. If you have another artifact to sacrifice you can begin the combo with Sword in the graveyard. Sword of the Meek + Thopter Foundry While this combo is not infinite and does not win the game on the spot it is still effective. Play that one and you're in combo land that nets 1 1/1 flying Thopter and 1 life for 2 mana Thopter Foundry and Sword of the Meek aren't the fastest combo in Magic, but they do offer a great deal of inevitability. Possibly to the point of being broken. The foundry has been reprinted in Commander 2013 and Commander 2016 as well as Mystery Booster. I like Chalice as a 2-of in the main. You pay one mana and sacrifice the Sword to the Foundry to generate a 1/1 flyer and gain one life. You also gain 1 life when you do this. The third way to use Goblin Engineer is with the Sword of the Meek/Thopter Foundry combo.
