Flip destroys parry spammers and can favourably trade with ultras. I don't get that at all. While in stance, use normal attack for a low spinning slash, or the strong attack to leap forward in a vertically-slashing somersault. I mostly use it for punishing ultra greatsword type attacks, things that have huge poise and reach and damage and are hard to safely swing at or punish. That's one of my favorite weapons! To be honest, both weapons are outclassed by the other weapons of the same type, e.g Claymore better than Wolf Knight, Zweihander better than Farron. The L2-R1 (low spin slash) is great because it counters rolls, parrying, and even blocking (I tend to see a guard break in one shot on parry shields) and attacks (good armor), meaning if someone is hanging out uncomfortably close with a parry tool out, throwing this out will basically screw them unless they dive away, its short reach being its only weakness. Its reach ensures that you can punish from all meaningful distances that people might commit to something at, and its decent tracking, amazing reach, unbreakable poise and absolute ability to smash through anyone else's makes it so that as long as you guessed correctly that the enemy has done something to lock themselves out of rolling for a second, it will cut right through everything in order to deliver its payload.
